Halloween Day!!!

Happy Halloween day everyone!! To stay up with the trend, today I provide a legend about Korean ghosts for you. Be prepare and enjoy!!

To create an emotional while reading the article, here is a song for you 🙂

This song is called “Lie” sang by T-ara, it might not sound that scary, but it is the ballad version OST song of “Soul”, a Korean horror film.

Let’s start the story 🙂

Korean people called ghosts as gwisin (귀신). They believe that after the death, they will turn into a gwisin stay around the place they used to lived or want to stay for 49 days, Then the cho seung saga (저승사자) or the grim will send them whether to heaven or hell depends on their behavior. Korean grim have a white face, wearing a black dress and Korean traditional hat.

Most of Korean ghost will be a form of women wearing white Hanbok (Korean traditional dress) without legs. Their mouth has a little bleeding. They usually died because they were left alone before a marry ceremony.

                                                          fear me!! I am scaryyyyyy

Dalkyal gwisin (달걀 귀신) or Egghead ghost is another type of Korean ghost. Their head is big with no face neither eyes, nose nor lip. Dalkyal gwisin do not speak (If they speak, how could they?). They can be found around a mountain or a small road with a few people passing by.  During the past, Korean is an agriculture country, their restroom was separate from the house. Dalkyal gwisin usually walk around the way from the house to the restroom. Luckily Dalkyal gwisin does not harm anyone who seen them, however, people who accidently talk to them will be sick and die after several days.

Moreover, there is another type of ghost which I don’t think it is a ghost, but it is a giant instead. dokkaebi (도깨비). Dokkaebi can be good and bad, but people in the past said that dokkaebi is too scary that they could not even draw a portrait of them. so people after their generation could not able to know the appearance of dokkaebi. However, after Japan had colonized Korea, Korean people have heard a story of Japan’s giant called “Oni”. They think that the story of Oni is similar to dokkaebi, so they assume that their appearance should be similar to each other.
